5 Tips for Readying your Car for Fall

Posted by Poquet Auto on Oct 5, 2016 5:02:57 PM

The leaves are changing and there’s a chill in the morning air.

IT. IS. FALL.

As we enjoy a nice slice of apple pie, or perhaps a Pumpkin Spice Latte (a “PSL,” for you pros out there), you may be wondering if there is anything you can do to get your car ready for Fall.

Well, there is! Here are 5 tips for getting your car ready for Fall driving!

1. Check your brakes and tires.

Bad weather, poor road conditions, and other colder-weather hazards require more stopping power than normal. This means keeping your brakes and tires in prime condition to tackle those cold, damp roads.

Need a little guidance when it comes to checking your tires? Here’s an infographic to help!

2. Change your oil and air filter.

We all know that regular oil changes are necessary to keep your vehicle running smoothly. However, you should also check your car’s air filters to make sure they are clean enough so your system can operate properly.

3. Get your battery checked.

Getting your car battery checked is super important for fall (and winter) weather. Cold, damp conditions tend to play havoc on batteries as your vehicle’s electrical systems have to work harder this time of year. Starter motors require all the electrical current they can to start the engine on cold mornings and, with more and more vehicle equipment demanding electricity, this is more of a problem than ever.

4. Check out your lights.

For the quickest tip of them all, walk around your car and make sure all of the lights, and their functions, are working properly. Since it tends to get darker more quickly around this time of year, you may want to consider upgrading your headlamps for safer driving on those early mornings and late nights.

5. Make sure your heater and defroster are functioning properly.

Most importantly for this time of year, make sure your heater and defroster are working. If these functions aren’t working correctly, your windows will fog right up, causing you to recreate this scene from Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,
