Terrafugia, a manufacturer of aircrafts, was recently granted permission to fly small, unmanned prototypes of their TF-X flying car by the FAA.
Here’s a concept video of the car in action:
While flying cars are probably still a ways off, we wanted to know what car trends (practical or fantastical) our readers anticipate in 2016. Here’s what they told us.
- I'd like to see cars that have a sensor where they refuse to collide into each other or any other object -- that they somehow stop before impact. - JE
- I wonder if continued low gas prices will contribute to folks buying larger vehicles? I've always wondered how much that impacts a buying decision? I also wonder about electric cars and what new technology will come out this year? Testing flying cars though, oh man, I've always wondered how they would direct traffic with no lanes. LOL! - RM
- More technology integrated into vehicles even driving for you (maybe some major highways incorporate certain lanes for car assisted driving only.) - AB
- Due to the lower gas prices, I think there will be a resurgence in larger vehicles; SUV's and trucks. - KO
- More cars having sensors advising driver of blind spot, too close, etc. - RL
- Auto-piloted vehicles that know your frequent routes and will drive you there hands-free. - WB
- Car controlled by my phone! - PP
- Self driving cars. Cars that talk to each other. - SM
- More energy efficiency. I know it's simple but being less dependent on big oil would be great. - BK
- Continued rise of SUVs and crossovers. - TJ
Do you have any trends to add to the list? We’d love to hear them in the comments below.
