We’re all guilty of reaching for that volume knob when our favorite song comes on the radio while driving. But, have you ever thought about how listening to music affects your performance behind the wheel?
According to the infographic below, prepared by No Nonsense Insurance, 90% of drivers admit music impacts their driving performance. Of those, 60% believe that listening to music makes them better drivers because they are happier.
While turning up the volume may reduce your reaction speed and braking time, the types of music you listen to may also have certain effects. The study shows that classical music listeners are the safest drivers; jazz listeners are more likely to receive a fine for speeding; hard rock listeners are more likely to be involved in a crash even though they show improved reaction times; and reggae listeners are more likely to be involved in a near miss, but most likely to report that they need their music to concentrate.
