Is spring cleaning on your to-do list for this weekend? Temperatures in Minneapolis are finally above freezing, and it’s the perfect time of year to clean out your closet, scrub some surfaces you’ve ignored for the past few months, or get stocked up for some outdoor entertaining.

Here at Poquet, we’re already daydreaming about taking a road trip in one of these great summer cars. So, we’ve put detailing our vehicles on our spring cleaning lists.

Why should you get your car detailed this spring? Is it better than getting a carwash?

Car washes are great for everyday use, but at the end of a long, salty winter, getting your car deep-cleaned and detailed is a good idea.

Here’s a breakdown of what happens when you get your car detailed, plus some of the benefits you’ll gain.

Detailing the Exterior

Detailing your vehicle starts with the exterior. First, your shop will do a deep wash to remove as much dirt and grime as possible.

While a traditional car wash uses brushes that may cause small scratches on your paint, detail techniques are designed to be gentle and non-abrasive. There’s no risk that your vehicle will get scratched up if it comes in after a sandy vehicle fresh back from the beach.

Plus, unlike a basic car wash that just skims over the surface of your vehicle, a detail gets into all the crevices where salt and mud could have accumulated. It will get your wheel wells, wheels, and tires sparkling - down to the lug nuts. It’s the garage equivalent of going over something with a fine-tooth comb.

Depending on the garage you visit, they may also clean your engine bay. Keeping the engine bay clean is especially important if you’re considering selling your vehicle in the near future - it can increase your vehicle’s appraisal value by ten to fifteen percent!

To finish off the exterior, the team will wax your vehicle. This will make it look off-the-lot new, and will seal and protect it against the grit of Minnesota road construction.

Detailing the Interior

Detailing the interior starts with vacuuming out your vehicle. Depending on the type of interior you have, vacuuming will be followed by either shampooing your upholstery or scrubbing and conditioning your leather interior. Interior glass and mirrors are also cleaned.

Benefits

Aside from the obvious benefit of having a clean car, there are several other advantages of getting your vehicle detailed.

Here in MN, the snow, ice, and salt can be brutal on vehicles. Waxing and detailing your car is a great way to protect it from the elements.

Detailing your car regularly keeps it in tip-top shape and increases its resale value down the road. If you’ve invested in a pre-owned luxury vehicle, this is especially important for keeping your vehicle’s value up.
