The New 2020 Ford Bronco is Coming!

At the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford officially announced the return of the Ford Ranger in 2019 and the Ford Bronco in 2020. Even though models of the Bronco and the Ranger never saw the stage, a few things have been made clear to the general public.

First, the 2020 Ford Bronco will not be the full-size 4×4, but it will be built on the 2019 Ranger’s frame, which is largely based on what is currently sold in Europe and abroad.

Currently, all existing versions of the Ford Ranger ride on a 126.8-inch wheelbase, with a 73.2-inch-wide body. The longest Rangers are 211.1 inches, a bit longer than the 184.9-inch length of a four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. This may point to Jeep as the Bronco’s most direct competitor.

With all of the hype, there are also a few claims that are worth mentioning, as well.

For instance, there is a claim that the U.S. market’s Bronco design will be based on the Ford Everest, a body-on-frame 4×4 built on the Ranger platform in Australia. If the American market Bronco was to be based on the Australian Everest, the Bronco will most likely receive minor front and rear styling changes to differentiate the two.

So while we were all hoping for a retro-inspired two-door Bronco, it may be too risky to build. And although a sensibly sized, four-door, 4×4 may not have the original Bronco charm, it will appeal to more people. With a Ranger frame, and the Jeep Wrangler as a potential competitor, it’ll no doubt have the off-road prestige to accompany the Bronco name.
