Our daily drivers are becoming more intelligent. Many of the vehicles on the road today are considered to be connected cars, equipped with embedded systems to enable connected devices to communicate.
Such features include internet and wifi capabilities, navigation, voice controls, mechanical diagnostics, entertainment, crash notifications, roadside assistance, and contextual help in the form of suggestions like nearby gas stations or restaurants.
According to Forbes, connected cars are expected to gain serious momentum, fast. Data from their infographic predict there will be 152 million connected cars on the road across the globe by 2020. Three years ago, there were approximately 23 million connected vehicles worldwide.
Driverless cars are gaining a bit of attention these days, but we seem to be a ways away from that sort of technology. The new ‘smart’ features in our current vehicles seem to be here to stay. Do you own a connected car? If so, what are some of your favorite features?
