What is the Best Muscle Car? - Readers’ Choice

Written by Poquet Auto | Dec 8, 2015 4:00:41 PM

Ah, the muscle car. An American favorite and oft-debated best-of list. The muscle car is a genre that enthusiasts are passionate about -- a passion driven by straight-line speed delivered through a high-displacement engine.

But, what exactly defines a muscle car? Are you a two-door only type, or a horsepower to weight ratio delineator? Does original sticker price weigh into the equation? What about blowers, dual pipes, and stripes or flames?

Despite a definition as loose as the steering on some models, most people can agree that muscle cars jam the most pavement pounding power into a tight package and, ultimately,  “you know one, when you see one.” Usually, your admiring it’s taillights off the line.

We polled our Facebook followers for the best muscle car ever. Here are the top ten responses, in no particular order:

  1. ‘68 Shelby Cobra - JW
  2. ‘58 Chevrolet DelRay. Converted to a whole new drivetrain, of course. - DR
  3. Gotta go with the ‘64 GTO. It was the car that other muscle was compared to, copied, or manufacturers tried to beat. When I think of a muscle car, I lean to the original. - JS
  4. ‘69 Camaro Convertible SS/RS 369 Indy Pace Car - BW
  5. ‘65 Mustang - yeah baby - TS
  6. ‘69 Yenko Camaro 427/425hp - RL
  7. ‘68 Chevelle SS - SJ
  8. ‘69 Charger R/T - GA
  9. ‘78-79 Charger - GK
  10. ‘71 Boss 302 Mustang - AH
