Should I Warm Up My Car's Engine In The Winter?

Posted by Poquet Auto on Jan 9, 2017 4:36:38 PM

In the past, the common practice was to “gear up and let it idle to warm up my car’s engine.” However, contrary to this former best practice, this strategy does not prolong the life of your engine. In fact, it strips oil away from the engine's cylinders and pistons.

In an internal combustion engine, pistons compress a mixture of air and vaporized fuel within each of the engine’s cylinders. The mixture is then ignited to create a combustion event, like a small, controlled explosion that powers the engine.

But, when your engine is cold, the gasoline is less likely to evaporate and create the correct ratio of air and vaporized fuel for these small explosions. Engines with electronic fuel injection have sensors that compensate for the cold by pumping more gasoline into the mixture. The engine continues to run this way until it heats up to about 40 degrees.

Anti-fog, it may be one of the greatest inventions since sliced bread.

...Ok, that was an exaggeration...

But for glasses and hockey visors, anti-fog solutions are great, especially during the winter. Now some people may not be aware of this but, some everyday products have been proven to be just as effective as a bottle of RainX anti-fog.

In this video, ChrisFix shot a YouTube video putting some urban legends to the test and found that one product performed just as well as RainX’s Anti-Fog. The products were: shaving cream, baby soap, hand sanitizer, and a potato. Can you guess which one worked? Watch the video to find out which product will keep your windows from fogging up for less than a bottle of RainX!

48 Electric-Car Charging Corridors Have Now Been Designated on U.S. Highways

Posted by Poquet Auto on Nov 16, 2016 4:48:05 AM

Two week ago, the White House announced a range of actions intended to stimulate and speed up the production of zero-emission electric vehicles in the U.S. This alternative fuel network plans to include 55 Interstate highways, with 48 of those designated as EV charging corridors. In total, the planned charging stations cover nearly 25,000 miles of road, with the appropriate signage along the corridors indicating where to charge up. EV owners can expect an existing or planned EV charging station within a 50-mile radius of one another.

The Federal Highway Administration has released a list of the locations of the corridors, which ones have been approved for the signage, and the type of fuels each will offer. Along with EVs, the program will accommodate vehicles that run on compressed natural gas, hydrogen, or other fuels.
